4 ripe pears (halved and cored)

2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 cup water (or apple juice for extra flavor)

Optional Toppings:

Chopped walnuts or almonds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Wash, peel (optional), halve, and core the pears.
  3. Arrange pears cut-side up in the baking dish.
  4. In a small bowl, mix honey (or maple syrup), cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice.
  5. Spoon the mixture evenly over the pears.
  6. Pour water or apple juice into the bottom of the dish to keep pears moist while baking.
  7. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  8. Remove foil, baste pears with the liquid, and bake for another 10–15 minutes until tender.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
  10. Serve warm with your favorite toppings if desired.
