These Chipotle Shrimp Tacos with Avocado-Mango Salsa are packed with smoky, spicy shrimp, sweet tropical fruit, and creamy lime crema—all wrapped in warm tortillas. A bold, colorful meal ready in just 30 minutes, perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings.
Ingredients
1 lb. medium raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/4 cup finely chopped shallots
2 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1 tsp. chipotle chili powder (or mix of chili powder and pinch of cayenne)
1 tsp. smoked paprika
3/4 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1/4 cup sour cream (or plain whole-milk Greek yogurt)
1 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
1–2 Tbsp. finely chopped fresh cilantro
8 corn or flour tortillas, warmed
Avocado-Mango Salsa:
1 medium ripe avocado, diced
1 medium ripe mango, diced
1 small or 1/2 large fresh jalapeño, seeds and ribs removed, finely diced
2 Tbsp. finely chopped fresh cilantro
Zest and juice of 1 lime
Instructions
- Pat shrimp dry and place in a large bowl. Add 1 Tbsp. olive oil, shallots, chipotle powder, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, and salt. Toss to coat. Let marinate 10 minutes.
- Prepare Avocado-Mango Salsa by combining mango, avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, lime zest and juice. Mix well and season with salt.
- Heat remaining 1 Tbsp. oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Add shrimp in a single layer and sauté 2–3 minutes per side, until no longer opaque. Transfer to a clean plate and remove tails.
- Prepare lime crema by stirring together sour cream, lime juice, and cilantro in a small bowl.
- Spread crema on warm tortillas, top with chipotle shrimp, spoon over salsa, and finish with more crema and cilantro if desired.
Notes
- Shrimp cooks fast—don’t overcook or it will turn rubbery.
- Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a lighter option.
- Avocado and mango should be ripe but still slightly firm for best texture.
- Crema, salsa, and shrimp can be prepped ahead separately for quick assembly later.
