Ingredients
For the Burgers
2 lbs ground beef
4 oz feta cheese, crumbled
1 large egg
2 tablespoons fresh chopped basil
2 teaspoons minced garlic
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Tomato Cream Sauce
2 tablespoons beef stock
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/4 cup chopped green onions
2 tablespoons tomato paste
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, feta, egg, basil, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Form the mixture into 14 evenly sized patties.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties in batches until browned on both sides and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- Drain excess grease from the skillet, leaving browned bits behind.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add beef stock to deglaze the pan, scraping up browned bits.
- Whisk in heavy cream, Italian seasoning, chopped green onions, and tomato paste until smooth.
- Season with salt and pepper. Simmer until sauce thickens.
- Return patties to the skillet and coat with sauce. Simmer for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with additional green onions if desired.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- You can substitute dried basil if fresh is unavailable, using about one-third the amount.
- For a thicker sauce, simmer longer or add a small amount of cream cheese.
- This recipe freezes well without the sauce; prepare the sauce fresh for best texture.
