Ingredients

4 medium sweet potatoes, washed and scrubbed (see notes)

1 tablespoon olive oil (or avocado oil)

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper (optional)

Optional Toppings: Butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, sour cream, shredded cheese, black beans, chives, pecans, or mini marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer
Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) while you prep the potatoes.
  2. Prepare the Sweet Potatoes
Poke several holes in each sweet potato with a fork. Rub them lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  3. Air Fry
Arrange the potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 28–30 minutes. Test doneness by inserting a fork into the thickest part. If it goes in easily, they’re done. If not, continue cooking in 3-minute increments.
  4. Serve
Allow the baked sweet potatoes to rest for 5 minutes. Slice open, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Sweet Potato Size: Cooking times are based on medium-sized potatoes (3–4 ounces). For larger ones, adjust cooking time:
  • 4–5 ounces: 30–35 minutes
  • 5–6 ounces: 35–40 minutes
  • 6–10 ounces: 40–55 minutes
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3–4 days.
  • Freezing: Let cooled baked sweet potatoes cool completely, then freeze in a ziplock bag for up to 3 months.
  • Reheating: Air fryer reheats best, but microwaving works fine too.
